Stagecoach students attend Practical Film School at the BFI

Returning for a second time, Stagecoach has partnered with the BFI to offer our students the opportunity to attend a four-day Practical Film School held at Southbank London.

Designed for both beginners and for children who have a basic understanding of making a film the course uses equipment that most children will already have access too, such as iPads to explore film making.

“I’ve done films before using iMovie and stop motion. But I’ve never done a film that is edited, with professionals. So this feels like the first step in my future film career!” - Student

The knowledgeable BFI course tutors take the children through masterclasses such as green screen, special effects makeup, and foley sound recording. From concept and storyboarding to filming and editing, students are coached by the BFI and visiting industry-leading professionals which ensures they get an invaluable insight into the industry.

“I’m used to being in front of the camera but this course gave me the opportunity to be behind it and to learn about how to film, use a tripod and also to learn acting techniques from watching other students perform” - Student

The four-day course is rounded off with a film premiere, where the film the students create is shown on the big screen at the state of the art BFI cinema.

“It was absolutely amazing. I was quite surprised by how much she had learnt in one week! - Parent
