To help inspire the some festive lyrics, Matt Lucas is sharing his top tips for writing your own song!
________
Hello, Matt Lucas here. Now, I'm very excited because Stagecoach is running a competition this year to give away signed copies of The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas. We have five to give away, and if you want to win a copy, all you need to do is write your own Christmas song.

Now I've got three tips for writing your own Christmas song.

Tip number one: make sure it rhymes! It’s very important to make it rhyme.

Tip number two: make sure the tune is catchy, something that people can remember so that they can learn it more easily and sing it with a smile.

Tip number three: it doesn't have to be too long. It shouldn't be too short, it shouldn't be one second. You can't have a song that just goes, “Mary”, and then just finishes there because that's, I mean, that's no good. So, it should be a bit longer than that, but it shouldn't be, I would say no longer than seven hours because that probably would be a bit too long!

Anyway, good luck with the competition and I really look forward to hearing your entries and merry Christmas from me. Even though it's not Christmas yet, it's time to get into the Christmas spirit!
